A critical care or intensive care unit (ICU) is where we offer sophisticated medical and nursing care for the most serious illnesses and injuries. You receive care around the clock.

At Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC), we offer multiple ICUs with specially trained staff. We use many kinds of complex medical equipment to give you the highest level of care.
This includes ensuring you can rest, heal and recover. Our sleep specialists and respiratory experts monitor your breathing and provide treatments for safe and sound sleep.
As a teaching hospital, we are affiliated with Harvard Medical School. This means you get access to care from doctors and other health providers who stay up to date with the latest medical advancements.
Each ICU at BIDMC is led by an attending physician or intensivist. The team includes nurse practitioners, physician’s assistants, residents, interns and fellows, as well as specialists in anesthesia, emergency medicine, and surgery.
At BIDMC, all but one ICU is located on the West Campus.
The MICU/SICU is on the East Campus. It is commonly called Finard ICU — or FICU — because of its location in the Finard Building.
