Intensive care and monitoring after surgery
If you receive complex surgery for a trauma or sudden illness at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC), you will likely recover in a surgical critical care unit. You will receive coordinated care from many specialists in our Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU) or Trauma Surgical Intensive Care Unit (TSICU).
Our surgical ICU team is always staffed by acute trauma surgeons, specialty trained surgical ICU nurses, fellows, and residents.
Together, we give you the most appropriate monitoring and treatment after your procedure, whether it was a scheduled surgery or an emergency treatment for a traumatic injury.
BIDMC is an academic medical center. This means you get access to doctors with expertise in nearly every medical and surgical specialty and subspecialty. We coordinate your treatment to ensure you receive the best care after your planned or trauma surgery.
A senior-attending trauma surgeon or senior-attending anesthesiologist always supervises fellows and residents involved in your care.
