U.S. News & World Report issued its Best Hospitals rankings for 2025-2026 and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center was once again ranked as a leading hospital in Boston.

BIDMC was recognized as a national leader and ranked among the top 50 hospitals in the country in nine specialties — Cancer (#22), Diabetes & Endocrinology (#21), Ear Nose & Throat (#49), Gastroenterology & GI Surgery (#21), Geriatrics (#34), Heart & Vascular (#39), Neurology & Neurosurgery (#47), Obstetrics & Gynecology (#15), Pulmonology & Lung Surgery (#25).

In addition, nineteen specialties, procedures and conditions were rated as “High Performing”. U.S. News & World Report also rates hospitals regionally, and BIDMC ranked No. 3 in the state.

BIDMC has also received the American Heart Association’s Get With The Guidelines - Stroke Gold Plus quality achievement award for its commitment to ensuring stroke patients receive the most appropriate treatment according to nationally recognized, research-based guidelines, ultimately leading to more lives saved and reduced disability.

Our doctors and researchers regularly receive rewards in recognition of their contributions to medicine, as well as grants to fund their groundbreaking work.

Nursing Excellence at BIDMC

Magnet recognition is awarded to nursing departments that meet and exceed the highest standards of patient care. Given by the American Nurses Credentialing Center, the Magnet program is the world’s highest honor for nursing excellence.

BIDMC's Department of Nursing is one of less than 10% of healthcare organizations across the United States to have achieved Magnet recognition, reflecting our nurses' and nurse leaders' superior professionalism, teamwork, and patient care.

The American Nurses Credentialing Center determines recognition using the Magnet Model, a rigorous framework for nursing practice, research and outcomes measurement. The Magnet Model evaluates various aspects of a hospital’s care delivery system deemed essential to delivering quality patient care.

Aspects evaluated include:

• Quality of nursing leadership
• Coordination and collaboration across specialties
• Processes for measuring and improving the quality and delivery of care

Demonstrated Commitment to LGBTQ Patients and Their Families

BIDMC continues to be recognized as a "Leader in LGBTQ+ Healthcare Equality" by the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) Foundation, the educational arm of the country's largest lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer civil rights organization. This means we consistently demonstrate our deep commitment to LGBTQ patients and their families.

Our commitment includes equitable care for all, including non-discrimination policies for LGBTQ patients and employees, a guarantee of equal visitation for same-sex partners and parents, and LGBTQ health education for key staff members.

To be named a Leader in LGBTQ+ Healthcare Equality, healthcare providers must earn high marks in the Health Equality Index, an annual survey conducted by the HRC Foundation. The goal of the survey is to guide changes to policies and practices that help strengthen the care institutions give LGBTQ patients, who can still face significant challenges in securing adequate health care.
