Official Hospital of the Boston Red Sox
About Our Partnership with the Boston Red Sox
Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC) partners with the Boston Red Sox to implement programs aimed at empowering our communities and delivering meaningful health and social outcomes.
Red Sox Scholars Program
The Red Sox Scholars program, launched in 2003 and funded by the Red Sox Foundation, rewards academically talented, economically disadvantaged Boston Public School students with $10,000 college scholarships and a network of support and opportunity.
BIDMC is the proud "presenting sponsor" of the program and a partner to the students. Each year, Scholars tour the medical center to learn about health and science careers. The students also have a dedicated career pipeline at BIDMC. Several former Scholars are now employees at BIDMC. The program has consistently achieved a 100 percent high school graduation and college acceptance rate.
Fenway First Aid Stations
At the heart of BIDMC's relationship with the Red Sox is the skill, enthusiasm and commitment to service that a team of BIDMC staff brings to every home game.
More than 70 BIDMC nurses, physicians and techs from the Emergency Department, Post Anesthesia Care Unit, Intensive Care Units and Operating Rooms rotate through the First Aid stations at Fenway Park for all home games and other events.
Affiliation Pride
Throughout the season, the Red Sox recognize BIDMC game-changers in the field of health care who go above and beyond for patients in noteworthy and exceptional ways or have made significant achievements in their role at BIDMC in research. BIDMC's name is displayed throughout Fenway Park while videos of babies born at BIDMC are featured on the video board as “Rookies of the Year,” wearing the official baby hat of the Red Sox. Each newborn at BIDMC receives the hat and other Red Sox goodies, including a certificate for a free tour of Fenway when the baby turns five-years-old.
If you had a Red Sox baby at BIDMC, be sure to DM us with your photo(s) to @bidmchealth or use the hashtag #BabySox for a chance for your baby to be selected as one of our Rookies of the Year!
Throughout the season, players visit BIDMC to spread cheer to hospital patients and staff. In addition, Wally pops in on occasion to say 'hello' to his friends on Brookline Avenue. Staff members receive great perks, such as free Red Sox Nation memberships and special access to $5 tickets to every regular season home game throughout the season. With our partners at Fenway, we strive to keep spirits high at BIDMC!
Keep an eye out for the BIDMC/Red Sox logo around the city! Banners about the relationship adorn the Fenway area throughout the season. Shuttle buses for patients, visitors and staff proudly display the Red Sox affiliation. When you’re at a game, you’ll find our logo on the Green Monster and on signage throughout the ballpark and the videoboard.
