You have the right to receive care, no matter your ability to pay or health insurance coverage. At Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC), we are committed to ensuring that your financial experience is as smooth and transparent as possible.
Our financial counseling services assist you with:
We also help you apply for free care, complete applications and find other programs that may pay part of your medical expenses.
Understanding your hospital bill and insurance coverage is essential. Below are key details to help you navigate your financial responsibilities at BIDMC:
When you receive care at BIDMC, you may receive a bill from various departments, including the hospital itself, physicians, radiologists, pathologists, anesthesiologists and other specialists involved in your care. Each of these providers may bill separately. Your bill may also include charges for hospital services like room and board, lab tests, medications and imaging studies.
To ensure accuracy, please review your bill carefully and make sure all the charges are correct. If you have questions or need clarification, our billing department is available to assist you.
BIDMC accepts most insurance plans, including private insurance, Medicare and Medicaid. We encourage you to contact your insurance provider directly to confirm coverage before your visit. If you are unsure about the details of your coverage, our team is happy to help you understand what services will be covered and what costs you may be responsible for.
Motor Vehicle Accident (MVA) Coverage: If you were in a motor vehicle accident, you must open a liability claim with your auto insurance company even if you were not at fault. Your insurance carrier will assist you with the claim.
Worker's Compensation: If you were injured at work, notify your employer as soon as possible to begin a Worker's Compensation claim. Your employer and insurance carrier will assist you with the claim.
At BIDMC, we believe that every patient should have access to clear information about their financial rights and responsibilities.
BIDMC adheres to state and federal regulations regarding balance billing. This notice explains the circumstances under which you may be responsible for paying amounts not covered by your insurance, including deductibles, co-pays or co-insurance. If you have any questions about your bill, please don’t hesitate to reach out to our billing department.
BIDMC is committed to transparency in pricing. We provide clear and accessible information about the costs of common procedures and services to help you make informed decisions about your care.
