Division of Neuroradiology

Neuroradiology Care, Research & Education

The Division of Neuroradiology at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC) specializes in interpreting medical images of the brain, spinal cord, head and neck, and vascular system to accurately diagnose and guide treatment for a wide range of neurological conditions. Using advanced imaging technologies such as MRI, CT, and angiography, our highly experienced team performs approximately 60,000 imaging studies each year in Boston and across our community sites.

We collaborate closely with the Departments of Neurology, Neurosurgery and Neuropathology to provide integrated, patient-centered care, as well as hands-on education and innovative research opportunities. Our neuroradiologists are committed to delivering precise, timely evaluations that support the best possible outcomes. More About the Division

Care & Services

Our team of expert neuroradiologists provides interpretation of the full range of CT and MRI exams of the brain and spine, including functional MRI of the brain, CT angiography of the head and neck, as well as ENT- and ophthalmology-related CT and MRI head and neck imaging. We also perform diagnostic, image-guided procedures (e.g., lumbar puncture and myelography).

Our Facilities
  • 11 helical multidetector CT instruments across the sites, including at the Emergency Departments.
  • 10 human MR systems, eight 1.5T, two 3T.
  • Two small-bore, high-field MR systems.
  • One biplane angiography suite dedicated to diagnostic and interventional neuroangiography and spinal procedures.
  • State-of-the-art 3D laboratory with dedicated workstations: GE AW, Vitrea, and Tera Recon.
  • PET/CT and SPECT/CT services provided by Nuclear Medicine colleagues.
Education & Training

The Diagnostic Neuroradiology Fellowship at BIDMC is a Harvard Medical School-affiliated, one-year accredited program. Our department prides itself on being supportive of its fellows and places a strong emphasis on the quality of teaching on a person-to-person basis.

Research

In addition to providing our patients advanced clinical care, we are dedicated to conducting leading-edge research in order to develop innovative neuroimaging techniques that further the management of neurological disorders.
