Otolaryngology Care, Education & Research

The Division of Otolaryngology/Head and Neck Surgery at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC) specializes in the evaluation and state-of-the-art treatment of patients with ear, nose, throat (ENT) disorders, voice and swallowing disorders, cancers, and non-malignant conditions of the head and neck.

The division collaborates closely to ensure comprehensive treatment of all ENT disorders. The team includes skilled otolaryngologists for general head and neck care, audiologists for hearing problems, laryngologists for larynx and voice box care, and rhinologists who provide sinus, nasal and allergy care.

The Division of Otolaryngology/Head and Neck Surgery also offers comprehensive educational experiences and conducts clinical research to improve outcomes in head and neck cancer.

Care & Services
Head & Neck Surgery

Our head and neck surgery team provides care for patients with ear, nose, throat (ENT) disorders and cancers and non-malignant conditions of the head and neck.

For people with suspected or known hearing loss, we provide hearing tests, hearing aids, cochlear implants and auditory rehabilitation (therapy that helps hearing-impaired patients improve their ability to communicate through speech reading and auditory training).

Our expert otolaryngologists/head and neck surgeons provide the latest in surgical care of non-cancerous and cancerous ENT and head and neck conditions, including skull base surgery, transoral robotic surgery, and plastic and reconstructive surgery. We work closely with the following teams to ensure our patients receive comprehensive care for their conditions:

Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery

Oral and maxillofacial surgeons at BIDMC diagnose and treat a range of conditions affecting the mouth, jaw and face, including dental issues and TMJ pain.

While inpatient care and surgery may be performed at BIDMC, outpatient care is provided in collaboration with Boston University School of Dental Medicine and Boston Medical Center.

Education & Training

The Division of Otolaryngology/Head and Neck Surgery offers comprehensive educational experiences for medical students, residents and fellows. Trainees will have opportunities to gain exposure to the breadth of subspecialties in otolaryngology including head and neck oncology, otology/neurotology, laryngology, rhinology, facial plastic surgery, pediatric otolaryngology and skull base surgery.

Sub-Internship

We offer a four-week advanced clinical elective in otolaryngology to Harvard Medical School and other medical students.

Residency

Our residency program has rotations at BIDMC and Boston Children’s along with a range of research and educational opportunities.

Fellowship

Our fellowship provides training in Advanced Head and Neck Surgical Oncology and Microvascular Reconstruction.

Research

The Division of Otolaryngology/Head and Neck Surgery conducts clinical research research to improve outcomes in head and neck cancer, hearing improvement, voice and swallowing disorders, robotic surgery, chronic sinus inflammatory conditions and reconstruction.
