Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center’s (BIDMC) Division of Neurosurgery is closely connected with the Department of Neurology, providing comprehensive, state-of-the-art care for adults with a broad range of conditions affecting the nervous system. Our neurosurgeons, nurse practitioners and other clinical and support staff work as a team to ensure patients have the best possible surgical outcomes.

The Division of Neurosurgery delivers state-of-the-art care and employs robotic and minimally invasive surgical techniques to perform a wide range of procedures, including complex spine surgeries, endoscopic pituitary surgery, deep brain stimulation, epilepsy surgery and brain tumor resections. We utilize the latest technological advances to enhance precision and reduce recovery times, ensuring the highest level of care and optimal outcomes for our patients.
The Division of Neurosurgery at BIDMC provides neurosurgical expertise and a collaborative approach to caring for patients with cerebrovascular conditions including brain aneurysm, ateriovenous malformation, Moyamoya disease, and stroke. Working with the Brain Aneurysm Institute and Spine Center, we offer leading-edge endovascular and surgical treatment for patients with brain aneurysms, as well as other brain and spine vascular problems.
Through our multidisciplinary Brain Tumor Center, we work closely with Neuro-oncologists, Neuropathologists and Radiation Oncologists to provide comprehensive care in diagnosing and treating all types of brain and spine tumors. We tailor treatments to each individual to achieve optimal outcomes, using the latest and most effective therapies.
The BIDMC Epilepsy Center, a designated Comprehensive Epilepsy Unit, is at the cutting edge of technological advancements for treating patients with epilepsy. This includes an inpatient Epilepsy monitoring unit, stereotactic EEG, Laser Interstitial Thermotherapy, as well as more traditional resections. Treatment is tailored to each patient based on their seizure phenomena, anatomy, and EEG recordings.
The Division of Neurosurgery works closely with Emergency Medicine and the acute care surgery team, to provide thorough evaluation, treatment, support, and ongoing care for those who have experienced a concussion or a more severe traumatic brain injury. The program also integrates Neurology, Neuropsychology, and Social Work for those patients experiencing ongoing difficulties following a traumatic brain injury, ensuring the best possible long-term recovery.
The Division of Neurosurgery educates and trains future neurosurgeons and care providers to ensure they are equipped with the latest skills, knowledge and techniques to provide outstanding patient care.
