Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center’s (BIDMC) Surgical Oncology Division offers compassionate, state-of-the-art surgical care for adults with a wide range of cancers. Our experienced team of surgeons specializes in both traditional and minimally invasive surgical techniques, including advanced robotic surgery, to ensure each patient receives the most effective and least invasive treatment possible.
We focus on individualized care, working closely with other specialists in oncology, radiology, and pathology to develop personalized treatment plans tailored to each patient's unique needs.
The Division of Surgical Oncology also conducts cancer research to improve patient care through innovative and effective treatments, and trains the next generation of surgical oncologists through education and fellowship programs.

BIDMC has a long history of innovation in melanoma and skin cancer care, including the use of high dose interleukin-2 and immune checkpoint inhibitor therapy for treatment of metastatic disease.
Our surgeons have extensive experience in sentinel node biopsy and surgery for advanced or recurrent disease, including resection of abdominal metastases and major lymphadenectomy. We are also experts in Mohs surgery and the management of unusual non-melanoma cutaneous tumors, including Merkel cell carcinoma, dermatofibromasarcoma protuberans, extramammary Paget’s disease, and metastatic squamous cell carcinoma.
Our highly experienced endocrine surgeons utilize innovative and precise techniques, including “scarless” surgery, to treat cancers affecting the thyroid, parathyroid and adrenal glands. This includes endocrine surgery, including thyroidectomy, parathyroidectomy, minimally invasive adrenalectomy, and multi-disciplinary care for rare genetic cancer syndromes
Surgeons in our Pancreas Center perform complex pancreatic and hepatobiliary surgery, including advanced robotic and Whipple procedures for pancreatic cancer and other complex conditions.
