The Department of Pathology at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC) plays a vital role in the diagnosis of cancer and a wide range of medical conditions by performing detailed gross and microscopic examinations of tissue and cytology samples obtained through surgical procedures, interventional radiology, biopsies and endoscopy. Our expert pathologists provide timely, accurate diagnostic information that guides treatment decisions and improves patient outcomes. Our department provides clinical laboratory services to the hospital as well as consultations in the areas of clinical chemistry, hematopathology, microbiology and transfusion medicine.
Our Surgical Pathology Consultation Service provides enhanced consultation services to BIDMC doctors, providers and other staff, as well as external practices and facilities, who are dealing with complex patient cases.
