Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center's (BIDMC) Division of Maternal-Fetal Medicine (MFM) provides specialized care to patients who have or are at risk for complications during pregnancy. When needed, we collaborate closely with highly skilled and experienced physicians in other divisions at BIDMC to help ensure the safe delivery of your baby. 

Our clinicians host numerous educational opportunities for other obstetricians and train the next generation of MFM specialists. 
Through leading-edge research initiatives, we are working to expand our understanding of the most advanced treatments and the best way to deliver those options to all patients who need them.

Care & Services

As part of our service offerings, we perform ultrasounds and consultations in our Prenatal Diagnostic Center. We provide comprehensive prenatal care for the most complex patients. We also closely collaborate with specialists in a variety of departments, including endocrinology, anesthesia, genetics, radiology and perinatal clinical nursing, to coordinate our services and ensure you're receiving treatment that's tailored for your needs. 

New England Center for Placental Disorders

BIDMC’s New England Center for Placental Disorders, is a multidisciplinary program that provides advanced diagnosis and treatment to patients with a variety of placental disorders, including previa, accrete, increta and percreta.

Cardiovascular Diseases & Pregnancy

Cardiovascular conditions before, during or after pregnancy can pose challenges to the health of you and your baby. Our pregnancy heart team of maternal-fetal medicine specialists, cardiologists, anesthesiologists, nurses and social workers provide advanced cardiovascular care to help you have the safest possible pregnancy.

Complex Fetal Care

We diagnose and treat fetal anomalies at the Center for Maternal-Fetal Medicine at BIDMC. As part of our compassionate care philosophy, we consider your personal needs and preferences to ensure the best possible health outcomes for you and your loved ones.

Gastrointestinal Diseases & Pregnancy

Gastrointestinal conditions like inflammatory bowel disease and liver disease during pregnancy can pose unique challenges. Our maternal-fetal medicine specialists work with gastroenterologists, hepatologists, nutritionists, nurses and social workers to support you from preconception to delivery.

Infectious Diseases & Pregnancy

Complicated infectious disease can create unique problems during pregnancy. Our multidisciplinary team of maternal-fetal medicine specialists, infectious disease specialists, nurses and social workers coordinate a range of care services to prevent and treat infections during pregnancy.

Maternal Mental Health & Substance Abuse

Behavioral health conditions such as anxiety, depression, substance abuse and eating disorders can add unique challenges to pregnancy. We work with a multidisciplinary team of psychiatrists, nurses and social workers to help optimize your mental wellbeing during and after your pregnancy.

Neonatal Intensive Care Unit

Our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) provides family-focused care for hundreds of high-risk newborns. The NICU team works closely with maternal-fetal medicine to identify mothers most likely to deliver high-risk newborns, ensuring we have an appropriate care plan in place.
