Obstetrics & Gynecology Research

Research That Improves Women’s Health

Projects supported by BIDMC’s Division of Research in Obstetrics and Gynecology include basic science, translational, clinical, public health, quality improvement and medical education research, which reflect the diversity of interests, expertise and skills in our Department.

Medical Education

Our faculty are dedicated to advancing medical education in OB/GYN from the undergraduate level through continuing medical education. Our medical education division faculty have all completed medical education fellowships and have a wealth of experience in curriculum design and development, learner assessment, teaching and faculty development. Additionally, our faculty serve at the national level in key leadership roles in the Association of Professors of Gynecology and Obstetrics and the Council on Resident Education in Obstetrics and Gynecology, setting the standards for instruction in reproductive health and training in OB/GYN.

We encourage all trainees to participate in medical education research and to improve as medical educators through our Resident as Teacher and Resident as Mentor programs. The BIDMC Academy of Medical Educators, open to senior residents, fellows, and faculty, provides opportunities for scholarship and mentoring at an institution level.

Below is a brief summary of our research programs and study interests in medical education.

Multidisciplinary Research

In Obstetrics and Gynecology, our research reflects the diversity of expertise and interests that is valued in our Department. With four full-time faculty scientists and several research assistants, the Division of Research supports projects of faculty and learners by providing assistance with every component of research. This includes mentorship and direct assistance with study design, institutional review board approval, study implementation, data analysis, manuscript preparation and grant writing.

We bring expertise in epidemiology, biostatistics and implementation science to domestic and international projects, with topics ranging from biomarker development, to gender bias in the humanitarian sector, to financial toxicity of cancer care, and more.
