Care for gynecologic infections, Zika virus, AIDS and more
Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC) provides complete prenatal care for expecting moms and their babies. Our maternal-fetal medicine (MFM) team cares for those with high-risk pregnancies, including moms who have infectious diseases.
Complicated infections pose unique challenges during pregnancy. In partnership with your primary care doctor and your obstetrician, our multidisciplinary team coordinates care for infectious disease complications during pregnancy for you — and for your growing baby.
Whenever possible, we encourage those with preexisting infectious diseases to begin planning with your medical team before conception. Preconception planning can help you with these important steps:
These and other infectious diseases can affect a pregnancy. We can help you manage them before, during and after your delivery.
In some cases, your pregnancy care team may diagnose you with a new infection during pregnancy. If that happens, we’ll work with you and your obstetric providers to provide care recommendations at the time of diagnosis.
Your MFM team will help you understand how the infection affects you during pregnancy, as well as steps you can take to reduce or manage your risks. An infectious disease also may infect your growing baby. We counsel, diagnose and manage pregnancies alongside our infectious disease colleagues to coordinate follow-up care for the baby after delivery.
Rest assured that we have the compassion and expertise you and your baby need for the best outcome possible.
