Obstetrics Care, Research & Education
The obstetricians at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center’s (BIDMC) Division of Obstetrics offer a full range of diagnostic and treatment options to support diverse maternity care needs.
With a compassionate, patient-centered approach, we care for individuals throughout every stage of pregnancy. Our services include support for natural childbirth with minimal medical intervention, as well as expert management of high-risk pregnancies involving conditions like diabetes, hypertension and multiple gestations. We are also committed to training the next generation of obstetrics specialists, providing ample opportunity for career growth through our education programs. We host numerous research programs to help deepen the practice of obstetrics.

Care & Services
We provide comprehensive care to patients at all stages of pregnancy. Our services cover natural childbirth with minimal medical intervention to the management of high-risk pregnancies with issues such as diabetes, hypertension and multiple pregnancies.

Antepartum Unit
The Antepartum Unit provides 24/7 treatment options to expecting mothers whose pregnancies show complications that may require inpatient care. We use a human-centered, supportive approach to care for patients in need of advanced maternal-fetal care during pregnancy.

Maternal-Fetal Medicine
The Division of Maternal-Fetal Medicine provides specialized care to women at risk for pregnancy complications, helping to ensure a safe and healthy delivery for you and your baby.
Supportive Birth Collaborative
The Supportive Birth Collaborative identifies, implements and tests interventions that aim to improve patient experiences and outcomes during pregnancy and the postpartum period.

Research
Our obstetricians are at the leading edge of both OB/GYN and maternal-fetal medicine, helping to advance the study and understanding of these critical areas of medicine. By leading advances in OB/GYN medicine, our obstetricians provide the most sophisticated treatment options to patients and their growing families.
Placental Disorders Research
The New England Center for Placental Disorders, a unique and robust multidisciplinary program for treating patients with placental disorders (previa, accreta, increta, and percreta), actively researches new and innovative approaches to care for our patients.
Our current research focus is on understanding the biology that leads to placental disorders so that we can ensure healthy outcomes for the parent and baby. To achieve this, we have gathered an expert team of molecular biologists, placental biologists, pathologists, proteomics specialists and vascular biologists. We have the first national biospecimen repository for patients with placenta accreta spectrum, a resource that has already provided opportunities for numerous investigations and discoveries.
Finally, we are an active participant in the Pan American Society of Placenta Accreta Spectrum, a group of medical centers across the country collaborating to better understand and improve treatment options for patients with placenta accreta spectrum.
