Dedicated care for your bone health
At the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC) Osteoporosis and Metabolic Bone Center, we focus on keeping your bones healthy and strong. Our team of specialists is here to help prevent, diagnose and treat metabolic bone diseases like osteoporosis. We use advanced technology and personalized care to support your bone health.
We also help with other bone-related issues:
Metabolic Bone Disease (MBD) affects your bones, making them weaker over time. It involves problems with bone density and how your body uses minerals like calcium and phosphorus. Bone density testing can help us determine a patient's risk for fractures.
MBD may be treated by either or both an endocrinologist or rheumatologist.
Osteoporosis is a common MBD that makes your bones fragile. Symptoms include back pain, loss of height and easily broken bones. Causes can be aging, hormonal changes or lack of calcium. Risk factors include being over 50, family history, low body weight and certain medications.
We offer Bone Density Scans (DEXA) to check your bone health. A DEXA scan helps us find early signs of bone loss. It also shows us how well your treatment is working. Learn about screening guidelines and how to prepare for your test.
