Our diabetes primary care program ensures you get the support you need to manage your condition.

Understanding Diabetes

Diabetes is a condition where your body has trouble managing blood sugar levels. There are several types of diabetes:

  • Prediabetes: Blood sugar levels are higher than normal but not yet diabetes.
  • Gestational Diabetes: Develops during pregnancy and usually goes away after birth.
  • Type 1 Diabetes: The body doesn't produce insulin.
  • Type 2 Diabetes: The body doesn't use insulin properly.

Prevention & Screening

Preventing diabetes and catching it early is key. At BIDMC, your primary care provider will offer preventive care and screening tests to monitor your blood sugar levels. Our Healthcare Associates (HCA) Diabetes Program is dedicated to helping you stay healthy.

Managing Diabetes

If you have diabetes, our team will help you manage it. We provide diabetes education on how to control your glucose and blood sugar levels to avoid complications. You can see specialists at the Joslin Diabetes Center for advanced care. Together, our approach combines prevention, early diagnosis and effective management to help you live a healthy life with diabetes. BIDMC also offers inpatient diabetes care.
