Screening vs. Diagnostic Tests
Screening tests, like mammograms, check for breast cancer in women without symptoms. Diagnostic tests are used when there are symptoms or if something unusual is found during a screening. Your primary care provider can help you decide which tests are right for you.
The benefits of regular testing include early detection of breast cancer, which can lead to better outcomes. Some results may show no further testing is needed, while others might lead to additional tests or treatments.

We accommodate patients with physical disabilities in our breast imaging facilities. If you have specific needs, please let us know when you request an appointment so we can ensure your first appointment is as comfortable as possible.
Understanding Your Risk
Do you know if you are at high risk for developing breast cancer? Factors like family history, dense breast tissue and genetic mutations, such as BRCA, can increase your risk. BIDMC offers genetic testing and counseling to help you understand and manage your risk. Learn more about our genetic testing services.
First Boston Academic Medical Center to Earn Accreditation
The BreastCare Center at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center has achieved special accreditation from the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC). In addition to receiving accreditation, The BreastCare Center also earned a Commendation. This recognition was based on our perfect score, meeting or exceeding all 27 standards set by this prestigious medical group.
