Our podiatrists diagnose, treat and manage conditions that involve the feet, ankles, and lower legs. The Division of Podiatry offers a variety of surgical and non-surgical treatments for foot and ankle conditions. Because BIDMC is a major tertiary center, many complex limb salvage and revision cases are referred to our division for care. The most current diagnostic, preventative and therapeutic modalities are employed in the treatment of patients.
The Division of Podiatry, in partnership with Joslin Diabetes Center, provides specialized expertise in the prevention and advanced treatment of diabetic foot and ankle complications, such as ulcers, infections and Charcot conditions. BIDMC’s full-time, board-certified foot surgeons have long been recognized as leaders and innovators in the surgical and nonsurgical care of complex diabetic foot problems.
The division’s surgeons regularly speak at medical and surgical conferences at the local, national, and international level, educating their colleagues. These conferences include organizations such as the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons, the American Diabetes Association, the American Podiatric Medical Association and the International Association of Diabetic Foot Surgeons.
In collaboration with the Division of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery, our surgeons have developed protocols and surgical procedures that have significantly reduced major amputation rates in patients with diabetes.
