The Division of Neuromuscular Disorders at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC) provides world-class diagnostic, therapeutic and supportive care to people living with neuromuscular disorders. We’re focused on delivering collaborative, patient-centered care using evidence-based research to inform our practice.
In addition to comprehensive care, our clinicians have an active research portfolio and engage in education programs to help train the next generation of neurologists.

Our specialists diagnose and treat the full spectrum of neuromuscular conditions, including:
Motor neuron disorders such as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), primary lateral sclerosis, hereditary spastic paraplegia, post-polio syndrome, and benign fasciculation or cramp disorders.
BIDMC’s ALS Clinic is recognized as a Certified Center of Excellence, providing patients with access to the latest treatments, multidisciplinary care, and participation in leading-edge clinical trials.
Nerve disorders including Guillain-Barré syndrome (AIDP), chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy (CIDP), Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease, brachial plexus injuries, traumatic nerve injury, and nerve compressions such as carpal tunnel or ulnar neuropathy.
Neuromuscular junction disorders such as myasthenia gravis, Lambert Eaton myasthenic syndrome (LEMS), and botulism.
Muscle disorders including muscular dystrophies, myotonic dystrophy, FSHD, limb girdle muscular dystrophies, and inflammatory or inherited myopathies such as polymyositis, dermatomyositis, and inclusion body myositis (IBM).
To support accurate diagnosis and personalized care, our department also offers comprehensive neurodiagnostic studies performed by highly experienced technologists and physicians.

BIDMC is a member of the Northeast ALS Consortium (NEALS), an international network of over 130 amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) centers collaborating to advance ALS research and patient care.
We are one of the healthcare sites participating in the Healey ALS Platform trial, an innovative research approach that tests multiple ALS therapies at the same time to accelerate discoveries that help patients. BIDMC is also part of NeuroNEXT, a network of universities, foundations, and companies partnering to advance the study of neurological disease treatments.
