The Division of Rheumatology and Clinical Immunology provides leading-edge, compassionate care to patients with rheumatic diseases in our general outpatient clinic and in collaboration with the Cardiac Sarcoid Center, Center for Inflammatory Bowel Disease, and Raynaud's Center.

The healthcare professionals in the Division of Rheumatology provide comprehensive services that involve a team of rheumatologists, fellows, rheumatology nurses and nurse practitioners. Faculty in our division have been named among the best in Boston and include recognized leaders in research and clinical care.

Particular areas of expertise include systemic lupus erythematosus, rheumatoid arthritis, myositis, scleroderma and autoinflammatory disease. The Division of Rheumatology and Immunology provides advanced diagnosis and treatment of autoimmune, autoinflammatory and other conditions, as well as immune system evaluation for immune system deficiencies and monitoring of immunotherapy medications. 

Autoimmune Skin Diseases Center (ASDC)

The ASDC provides services for autoimmune skin disease and is the result of a multidisciplinary partnership between the Division of Rheumatology and Immunology and Department of Dermatology.

Autoinflammatory Disease Center

The Autoinflammatory Disease Center is dedicated to diagnosing and treating adults with known or suspected autoinflammatory diseases. As one of the few specialized centers in the country, we provide expert care for patients facing these complex conditions.

Cardiac Sarcoid Center

The Cardiac Sarcoid Center is a multidisciplinary center that offers care for cardiac sarcoidosis through a partnership between the Division of Rheumatology and Immunology with cardiovascular, pulmonary medicine, and other specialists across BIDMC.

Lupus Center of Excellence

The Lupus Center of Excellence is a specialized facility dedicated to providing comprehensive care for patients with lupus and related autoimmune disorders. Our team of experienced rheumatologists and healthcare professionals offers personalized treatment plans, including advanced diagnostic tools and management strategies. The center emphasizes multidisciplinary collaboration, patient education, and access to leading-edge research, ensuring that patients receive the highest standard of care and support in managing their condition.

Raynaud’s Center

The Raynaud’s Center is a multidisciplinary facility dedicated to providing comprehensive care for patients with Raynaud’s disease. This center is a collaborative effort between the Division of Rheumatology and Immunology and specialists in vascular medicine, pulmonary hypertension, hand surgery, and other relevant fields at BIDMC.

Lupus Research

The Rheumatology Division has an active basic and clinical research program in the field of Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) headed by Dr. George Tsokos. The laboratory, which consists of over 6,000 square feet of bench space, is located in the Clinical Life Science Building.

The Lupus Center of Excellence supports basic and translational studies in SLE and provides clinical care to patients across multiple disciplines such as rheumatology, nephrology and dermatology.

Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC) is proud to be designated as a Federation of Clinical Immunology Societies (FOCIS) Center of Excellence, reflecting our commitment to interdisciplinary research and education in clinical immunology.
