More About Organ Transplants

Comprehensive Transplantation Care

At BIDMC, you receive personalized care at every stage of the organ transplant process.

  • Before your organ transplant we guide you through evaluations, testing, and pre-surgical preparation to ensure you’re ready for the best possible
  • The transplant call alerts you when an organ becomes available. We coordinate your hospital arrival and prepare you for surgery.
  • Inpatient Recovery begins in the hospital following surgery. We provide intensive care and education to help you understand how to care for your new organ and prepare for discharge.
  • After your organ transplant, we closely monitor your health, manage medications, watch for complications, and provide continuous education to support your long-term well-being.
  • Behavioral health specialists tend to your mental health and emotional needs before and after your transplant.
Becoming an Organ Donor

Life-saving organ transplants are possible only because of organ donors. Learn about organ donation and how you can sign up to be an organ or tissue donor. You also can learn about living kidney and liver donation.

Transplant Clinical Trials

We are committed to not only caring for our current patients but also advancing the future of transplant care. Through ongoing clinical trials, we investigate new treatments and expand transplant options for patients who may not meet conventional eligibility criteria. As a patient at BIDMC, you may have access to innovative therapies through these research efforts.
