Screening mammography helps detect early-stage breast cancer. Digital mammography uses the latest technology available for breast imaging, featuring faster exposure time and improved image contrast, making it easier for radiologists to see abnormalities compared to film mammography.
We also offer 3D mammography (digital breast tomosynthesis) at BIDMC – Chestnut Hill.
You do not need an order from your physician to schedule a screening mammogram.

Bone density tests measure bone mass. Strong bones have high mineral density, or mass, which helps prevent fracture.
Bone density testing can tell if you have, or if you are at risk for, osteoporosis (low bone mass), a treatable condition that causes bone structure to deteriorate. Fragile bones can also increase the possibility for fractures of the hips, spine and wrist.
Most insurance companies will pay for a bone density test once a year, though some plans only allow testing every two years. Please check with your insurance company if you have questions.
