Laboratory at BIDMC – Chestnut Hill

About Our Lab in Chestnut Hill

At Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center – Chestnut Hill (BIDMC – Chestnut Hill), our laboratory team provides blood draws and specimen collection for a wide range of lab tests. All blood draws are performed by certified phlebotomists.

Some tests are processed on site, while others are sent to the clinical laboratory at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC) in Boston.

No appointment is needed. Please visit the lab during business hours and sign in at the draw station. Patients are seen in the order they arrive.

We accept most major insurance plans. Please contact your insurance provider with questions about coverage.

Doctor's Orders Required

A signed order from your doctor is required before we can collect blood or other specimens. Orders may be submitted electronically through our secure ordering system or provided to the lab as a paper or faxed order.

If your order is not already in our system when you arrive, or if you bring a paper or faxed order, please allow extra time for processing. Our team is happy to help ensure everything is in place for your lab work.

Lab Results

Once testing is complete, your doctor can review your results through our electronic medical record system. If you are enrolled in MyBILH Chart, you may also be able to review your results there.

If you have questions about your test results, please contact your doctor's office directly.

What does fasting mean?

Some lab tests require fasting. Please check with your doctor before coming to the lab.

If fasting is required, do not eat or drink anything for 8 to 12 hours before your test. You may drink water and are encouraged to do so.

Most medications can be taken as usual, but if you have any questions about fasting or medications, please ask your doctor before your visit.
