Training in Emergency Medicine
At the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center Harvard Affiliated Emergency Medicine Residency (HAEMR), residents train to become exceptional emergency physicians, innovators, educators, and future leaders in medicine. As a three-year residency program based at BIDMC's Level I Trauma Center (LINK), residents care for more than 57,000 patients annually, gaining extensive experience managing the full spectrum of medical, surgical, and traumatic emergencies in a high-acuity academic environment.
Our training extends far beyond a single institution. Through rotations at Boston Children's Hospital, South Shore Hospital, Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital–Needham, Mount Auburn Hospital, Signature Healthcare-Brockton Hospital, Cambridge Health Alliance, and St. Luke's Hospital, residents develop the versatility, confidence, and clinical judgment needed to excel in any emergency department setting. Community rotations provide graduated autonomy and abundant procedural experience, while tertiary care rotations expose residents to the most complex and critically ill patients.
As one of only 39 residents selected into this highly competitive Harvard-affiliated program from more than 1,000 applicants each year, trainees benefit from personalized mentorship by nationally recognized faculty, close collaboration with leaders in research and education, and unparalleled access to the academic resources of Harvard Medical School and its affiliated teaching hospitals.
