Psychiatric Noninvasive Brain Stimulation
Safe, effective treatment for mental health conditions
Advanced Care for Depression
At Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC), we offer advanced brain stimulation therapies for depression. Our treatments are performed at the Berenson-Allen Center for Noninvasive Brain Stimulation, a world leader in noninvasive brain stimulation.
Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) is a treatment option for individuals whose depressive symptoms have not responded to routine treatments (e.g., psychotherapy and medications).
How Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) Works
TMS is non-invasive and uses magnetic fields to stimulate nerve cells in the brain to improve depressive symptoms. TMS has been FDA-approved for major depressive disorder and/or depression with comorbid anxiety.
TMS is a well-tolerated procedure, requiring no anesthesia. Individuals undergoing TMS are able to go back to their daily routine immediately after treatment.
For non-psychiatric uses of TMS, learn more about our brain stimulation therapy services.
Becoming a Patient
If you are interested in our TMS treatments, the first step is a pre-treatment evaluation. During this evaluation, we will review your psychiatric history and discuss your mental health needs. This helps us create a personalized treatment plan for you.
To request an evaluation, please email our Neuromodulation Coordinator or call 617-667-0307.
