Additional Psychiatric Referral Information
The Neuropsychology Assessment Center provides evaluations for patients with cognitive, memory and related issues. To refer a patient, please call 617-632-0908. Referrals can also be submitted via fax (617-667-6447) or email using the Neuropsychology Assessment Center referral form. Patients suitable for referral include:
- Adults who are experiencing mild memory/attentional complaints and may be in initial stages of mild cognitive impairment.
- Adults with neuropsychological problems secondary to neurological disease, including seizure disorders, neurodegenerative disorders and multiple sclerosis.
- Older adults experiencing memory and behavioral changes.
- Patients with complex neurodevelopmental disorders, such as non-verbal learning disorders.
- Young adults with learning/attentional problems that interfere with education and age-appropriate development.
- Adults with neuropsychological problems secondary to medical illness including sleep apnea, hypertension, major organ disease and cardiovascular disease.
The Advancing Services for Psychosis Integration and Recovery (ASPIRE) Clinic is accepting referrals at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC). We provide comprehensive evaluation and outpatient treatment for individuals experiencing early symptoms of psychosis. Integrated within the larger BIDMC community, we offer coordinated, multidisciplinary care focused on every patient’s individual needs. Our academic center also offers opportunities to participate in clinical research geared toward understanding and developing innovative treatments for early psychosis.

BIDMC's Forensic Psychiatry Service provides consultation to attorneys, courts, employers, insurers and agencies in relation to civil, criminal, correctional and regulatory issues. As an outgrowth of our setting in a general hospital and academic medical center, we emphasize legal issues involving medical psychiatry and neuropsychiatry. Our staff includes psychiatrists, psychologists and neuropsychologists.
Legal issues appropriate for consultation:
- Competence and guardianship
- Psychiatric disability determinations
- Fitness for duty evaluations
- Psychiatric injury including evaluation of PTSD and traumatic brain injury
- Psychiatric malpractice
- Involuntary commitment questions
- Independent psychiatric evaluations
- Insanity defense evaluations

The Clinician Health Service (CHS) is designed for any physician or psychologist within BIDMC. The CHS provides a safe place to discuss concerns, assist with problem-solving and make recommendations for ongoing treatment, if indicated. This process occurs in the context of a one to three-session confidential psychiatric consultation. The service is supported by BIDMC and there are no fees associated with it.

Members of the Department of Psychiatry of Harvard Medical School at BIDMC provide clinical care as part of the larger clinical team at Massachusetts Mental Health Center (MMHC). MMHC provides comprehensive services to Department of Mental Health (DMH) eligible adults and adolescents.
