Referring Patients to the Digestive Disease Center at BIDMC

We're here to assist providers and practice staff in the process of referring patients to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center’s (BIDMC) Digestive Disease Center. We are committed to providing your patients with exceptional care.

The Digestive Disease Center provides comprehensive diagnostic and therapeutic services for a wide range of digestive health conditions, supported by multidisciplinary teams with expertise in gastroenterology and related specialties. Below we have outlined how to refer a patient for endoscopic procedures and to each of our digestive disease areas via phone and fax. If you have access to Epic Care Everywhere, you may place an order directly. 

Main Scheduling

Call the Digestive Disease Center's main scheduling line at 617-754-8888 to refer a patient to any of our programs. New patients can use our request an appointment form.

Referrals for Endoscopic Procedures 

We are proud to provide over 30,000 gastrointestinal procedures each year and we are open to referrals for all procedures including endoscopy, colonoscopy, and advanced GI procedures.

Requests for referrals can be made through our main scheduling line at 617-754-8888. If you have a patient in need of cancer-related diagnostic procedures, please also contact our main call center. 

Upper Endoscopy (EGD)

To refer a patient for an EGD, you can call main scheduling. You can also complete this EGD referral form and fax it to 617-754-8325. Epic Care Everywhere providers may place an order directly. 

Advanced Endoscopy 

Our Center for Advanced Endoscopy provides advanced diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, performed non-invasively and even endoscopic surgeries designed for organ preservation. If you would like to refer a patient for an advanced endoscopy procedure, please contact us at 617-754-8888 or send us a email. Referring providers can also fax us an order from their own electronic medical record system for any consultations or procedures needed. Please fax to 617-754-8325.

Gastroenterology Referrals
We have robust clinical services in all areas of gastroenterology including General GI, IBS & Motility Center, Pancreas Center, Celiac Center, and LGBTQIA+ Digestive Care. Referrals to all of these programs can be made by calling our main scheduling number at 617-754-8888.

Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD)

To refer a patient to the Center for Inflammatory Bowel Disease, please call 617-754-4232. Urgent visits and routine visits may be available.

Whether your patient with IBD is seeking a one-time second opinion, you are interested in co-managing these complicated conditions or wish for us to become your patient’s primary gastroenterologist, we can tailor our practice model to meet your care preferences.

Liver Referrals

The Liver Center at BIDMC provides care for the full spectrum of liver diseases and is home to numerous specialty liver disease clinics. To make a referral, please contact us at 617-632-1070. Patients can also complete this request an appointment form. 

Splanchnic Vein Thrombosis

To refer a patient to the Splanchnic Vein Thrombosis Multidisciplinary Clinic, please call 617-632-1190 or email us. BIDMC physicians can place an OMR consult order.
