Referring Patients to the BIDMC Chest Disease Center
The Chest Disease Center at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC) provides comprehensive evaluations and treatments for conditions affecting the lungs, airways and esophagus. We collaborate with referring physicians to improve continuity of care.
We consider each referring physician to be an important member of our health care team. We strive to keep you updated on your patient's status and are committed to making ourselves available to answer your questions or address any concerns.
Scheduling a Patient Referral Appointment
Call the Chest Disease Center at 617-632-8252 for information on referrals. Fax your referral to 617-632-8253.
To assure a timely visit, please fax the following information to our office along with the referral:
- Most recent office notes
- Impressions of recent scans or tests
- Copy of images being sent via mail or electronically

COPD Clinic Referrals
Our chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) Clinic specializes in multidisciplinary evaluation and treatment of patients with COPD. The COPD Clinic offers the following services:
- Pulmonary rehabilitation
- Smoking cessation
- Medical therapy
- Alpha-1-Antitrypsin replacement
- Endoscopic lung volume reduction
- Bullectomy
- Referrals for lung volume reduction surgery and lung transplantation
Tracheobronchomalacia (TBM) Referrals
For patients with suspected tracheobronchomalacia, please visit Tracheobronchomalacia (TBM) Program referrals for detailed instructions. This program addresses the specific needs of patients with TBM and patients who have not responded to treatment for asthma, COPD or other lung disorders.
