Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Clinical Trials

Access to emerging and new MS treatments

Advancing Treatment Through MS Research

Medical advances in the diagnosis and treatment of multiple sclerosis (MS) offer hope to people living with MS and their families. We participate in multi-center clinical trials for new MS treatments so we can stay abreast of the latest developments in care for this condition.

These advances guide the treatment plans developed by MS specialists at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC). That means, when you get care from us, you’re getting the latest and most advanced treatments.

MS Research to Slow Progression

Our MS team is particularly interested in clinical trials that focus on treatments to slow the progression of MS. A major concern for most people with MS is the progressive nature of the disease and its potential to cause severe disability.

Up to 80% of all people with MS face these and other progressive neurologic problems:

  • Cognitive (thinking) challenges
  • Gait (walking) instability
  • Loss of strength

Clinical Trials to Manage MS Symptoms

In addition, we participate in several other prominent clinical research studies investigating medications for these symptoms of MS:

  • Cognitive problems
  • Fatigue
  • Pain

We commonly see these issues in people with MS. Our goal is to make these symptoms easier to treat.

Other MS Clinical Trials

We are involved in a number of studies working to improve the diagnoses of MS and better predict the course of the disease. We’re studying why a subset of people experience progression in MS with significant physical and cognitive disability, and others don’t.

Our cutting-edge work with high field MRI is among the first to identify cortical lesions in progressive MS.
