Expert Botox Injections in Boston
Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC) offers Botox injections to improve your appearance and boost confidence. One of the more well-known cosmetic treatments, botulinum toxin injection (Botox) is a treatment approved by the Food and Drug Administration.
Issues Corrected by Botox
We use Botox injections for issues such as:
- Brow lifting
- Bunny lines
- Calf slimming
- Crow's feet
- Forehead and frown lines
- Jawline slimming (masseter reduction)
- Smoker's lines (perioral wrinkles)
- Certain neurological conditions, such as dystonia and neuromuscular disorders
What to Expect
We use the smallest possible needles and ice to maximize your comfort. Most people tolerate botulinum toxin injections extremely well.
The effect of one botulinum toxin injection usually lasts three to four months. Minimizing how much you use the muscles that we treated with Botox will help the effects last longer.
The best time to retreat is when the underlying muscle has regained the partial ability to contract. If retreatment occurs before the muscles have fully regained their ability to move, the Botox injections are additive. This results in a longer lasting effect.
Side Effects of Botox
Temporary bruising is possible. You can minimize bruising by avoiding these things:
- Aspirin-containing products for one week before injections
- Vitamin E for one week before injections
- Alcohol for three days before injections
Mild headaches may occur. You can take Tylenol, and this usually helps. A slight change in the shape of the eyebrow is possible. Drooping of the eyelid is rare and usually resolves within days to a few weeks.
Post-Treatment Care
It is important to use the muscles in treated area for the first three hours after injections. This helps the muscles to absorb the botulinum toxin. You can do mild exercise four hours after the treatment. Your Botox care team will provide instructions for what to do – and what to avoid – in the hours after treatment.
You’ll notice the effects of Botox injections within two to four days. You will see the maximum benefit at 14 days.
