Nutrition Support for Cancer Patients
Healthy food choices during cancer treatment and beyond
Oncology Nutrition Counseling
Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC) provides comprehensive assessment and counseling to meet your individual nutritional needs.
Our goal is to help you develop an understanding of how food and nutrition affect your health and well-being. We focus on how nutrition therapy can help maintain your overall health during and after your cancer treatment.
Nutrition Counseling Appointments
Nutrition appointments with a registered dietitian (RD) who specializes in oncology are available Monday through Friday. If you are interested in meeting with a dietitian, please ask your doctor or nurse to place a consult. Appointments are typically conducted at infusion sessions, clinic visits or virtually.
We do not bill for our services and there is typically no need for referrals from primary care providers.
Snacks & Refreshments
In addition to the nutrition services that we offer, we also provide snacks and lunches to those who are:
- Waiting to see their health care provider
- Receiving infusion treatments
Volunteers — who are usually former patients — generously spend their time with patients and families on the oncology outpatient floors.
