Global Health Medicine Fellowship
The Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC) Global Health Medicine Fellowship is a year-long program in Botswana offered by the Department of Medicine, designed for ABIM eligible or certified internal medicine candidates. This fellowship aims to develop leaders in addressing global health inequities through a combination of clinical stewardship, medical education and quality improvement.
Fellowship Program Structure
Six months as clinician-educators at Scottish Livingstone Hospital (SLH) in Botswana.
- Teaching and overseeing rotating U.S. medicine residents, and Botswana medicine interns and students
- Leading outreach activities in the Kweneng East district
- Gaining clinical experience in managing a wide range of medical conditions, both communicable and non-communicable, in inpatient and outpatient settings
- Focus on local capacity building with:
- Outstanding clinical stewardship and mentorship
- Dedicated medical education
- Collaborative quality and process improvement projects
- Local systems strengthening in clinical service delivery
- Administrative support to the Country Program Director
Six months as a hospitalist in the Boston area within BIDMC's Hospital Medicine Program.
- Inpatient ward attending opportunities
- Participation in clinical case conferences
- Funding for global health courses, training, or conferences
- Round-trip airfare to Botswana and in-country work-related transport
- Annual salary of $95,000
