Referring Providers
BIDMC welcomes physician referrals and the opportunity to provide excellent care for your patients.
Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center’s (BIDMC) Division of Acute Care Surgery, Trauma & Surgical Critical Care is a Level 1 Trauma Center that provides exceptional, state-of-the-art, multidisciplinary care for adults who require emergency surgery because of an accident, an injury or life-threatening surgical emergency. We are with our patients every step of the way.
In fact, care often begins before the patient arrives at BIDMC's Berenson Emergency Department, one of the busiest emergency departments in the area. This attentive care continues throughout the patient's evaluation, surgery, and hospitalization; discharge planning; and follows the patient's discharge through our Acute Care Surgery Clinic.
In addition to providing multidisciplinary care, the division conducts trauma, emergency surgery, and surgical critical care research, participates in the training of surgical medical students and general surgery residents, and offers an accredited Fellowship in Surgical Critical Care and Acute Care Surgery.
We are one of the busiest providers of acute care in the region staffed around the clock by full-time, attending (senior-level) acute care surgeons whose sole responsibility is emergency surgery and the care of critically ill surgical and trauma patients.
The Acute Care Surgery Clinic is for following up on traumatic injuries or surgical emergencies, as well as outpatient planning for surgeries for acute issues. Our staff will help you make an appropriate follow-up appointment as well as arrange for any follow-up X-rays or testing.
As a Level I Trauma Center, we provide the highest level of traumatic injury care and serve as a regional trauma resource. The Level I Trauma Center at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center accepts trauma patients from referring hospitals in the region and offers tertiary ICU care. We deliver the highest level of multidisciplinary expertise for adult patients with all types and severities of traumatic injuries, excluding burns.
Our Surgical Critical Care service provides multidisciplinary, well-coordinated critical care for patients after surgery. Staffed 24/7, our service ensures that seriously ill patients are monitored and receive the specialty care they need to recover.
