How Long Do Botulinum Toxin Injections Last?

The effect of one botulinum toxin injection usually lasts 3 to 4 months. Minimizing the use of treated muscles by controlling animation will help it last longer. The best time to retreat is when the underlying muscle has regained the partial ability to contract. If retreatment occurs before the muscles have fully regained their ability to move, the botulinum toxin injections are additive resulting in a longer lasting effect. This occurs because of muscle atrophy which usually occurs after 3-4 consecutive treatments.
