Mental Health Primary Care

Care for your mental well-being

Behavioral Health Consultation and Care

If you live with anxiety, depression, stress or substance use — or symptoms of these conditions — your primary care provider (PCP) can help.

At Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC), you can access certain mental health care options through our primary care services. This is especially helpful if you have complicated medical and behavioral health conditions that overlap.

As an established patient at BIDMC’s Healthcare Associates (HCA) primary care practice your doctor regularly assesses your mental health.

Mental Health Services

At BIDMC we provide a full range of mental health and addiction recovery services to improve your well-being. The social work team offers mental health consultation, care and support. We partner with your care team to make a diagnosis, create a care plan and connect you to resources in your community.

We work with HCA's Women's Health Center, if your PCP is part of that center. You also can access individual and group counseling as part of your treatment.

We offer these and other services:

  • Addiction treatment
  • Connections to counseling services within BIDMC, HCA and throughout Massachusetts
  • Urgent behavioral health consultations during regular office hours
  • Individual and group therapy for anxiety management, coping skills, healthy lifestyle changes and improving relationships
  • Assistance with insurance, medication access and transportation for appointments
  • Access to agencies and resources that provide advocacy and legal advice, financial assistance, food and meals, housing support, home care and disability services

Addiction Treatment Clinic

You can get outpatient addiction treatment at HCA’s Addiction Treatment Clinic. Your PCP can refer you for care if you need drug and alcohol treatment or help with a substance use disorder, such as opioid use.

We provide these and other options:

  • Group therapy
  • Individual therapy
  • Prescriptions for buprenorphine (Suboxone) and naltrexone (Vivitrol) when appropriate

Our treatment team includes these experts in addiction psychiatry:

  • Medical doctors
  • Nurse practitioners
  • Social workers

Ask your HCA doctor for a referral, or call us at 617-667-1504.
