Counseling and Emotional Support from Family Planning to Postpartum
At BIDMC, our OB/GYN social work team specializes in providing emotional support, psychoeducation, resource referrals and counseling to patients and families. This support ranges throughout the perinatal service on OB/GYN and NICU units and outpatient settings.
The OB/GYN social work staff are clinicians who have expertise in a broad range of issues, including:
- Family and relationship stressors
- Family planning and options counseling
- High-risk and routine pregnancy
- Perinatal loss and bereavement
- Perinatal mood and anxiety disorders
- Substance use disorder
- Unexpected diagnoses/admissions, including NICU admissions
Our social workers and community resource specialists possess in-depth knowledge and expertise in resources specific to pregnancy, parenting and newborn services. We can provide you with information and referrals to group programs, community supports and benefits.
The social work staff are part of the patient care team and accept referrals from your care providers as well as direct referrals from you and/or your family.
