Bowdoin Street Health Center is committed to providing advanced, compassionate health services to you and your family. We have been an active participant in the Dorchester community for over 40 years and offer care for infants, children, teens, adults and seniors.

Our Mission & Story

Founded in Boston's Dorchester neighborhood in 1972 by community residents, Bowdoin Street Health Center remains focused on providing outstanding medical care while maintaining a tradition of working with residents to identify and meet your unique health needs. The mission of the health center is to provide excellent, compassionate care to our patients and support the health of the entire community. Recognizing how social and economic factors in the community can also influence an individual's health status, Bowdoin Street actively engages with community organizations and public entities to prevent violence, improve access to healthy, affordable foods and promote wellness through exercise and stress reduction.

Member of Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center

Our Center is a member of Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC) in Boston, which is world-renowned for excellence in patient care, research, teaching and community service. A Harvard-teaching hospital, BIDMC offers medical expertise in cardiology, cancer care, women's health, diabetes/vascular surgery, obstetrics, transplantation and AIDS.

Make an Appointment

Use your online patient portal account to access billing information, schedule an appointment and more. You can also call our main number at 617-754-0100 to make an appointment. 

Urgent Appointments

If you have an emergency medical issue, please go to the emergency room or call 911.

If you require same day medical attention that is not an emergency, please call our main number during operating hours and you will be given an appointment with your provider (if available) or the next available provider.

Open Access

On any given day that you call us, we will try to give you an appointment with your doctor that same day or the next day. If we are unable to give you an appointment with your doctor, we will offer you an appointment with another doctor. We try to do the same for new patients, too. 

After Hours

If you have an urgent medical question after the clinic is closed, you may call our main number 24 hours a day and we will reach a doctor for you.

Public Transportation Information 

Take the Red Line to Andrew or Fields Corner station. Then transfer to Bus 17, which will drop you off on Bowdoin Street, across from the health center.

Pediatrics

Your children can visit a pediatric provider and have all of their regular check-ups and routine medical visits in one location. Our providers see children from infancy through adolescence. We also provide care for teens.

Services include:

  • Immunizations
  • School/camp physicals
  • Care for lead poisoning
  • Care for pediatric asthma
  • Sports programming for youth ages 8-12
Optometry (Eye Care)

We provide comprehensive eye care services, including routine vision examinations and the diagnosis and treatment of eye disorders.

Physical Therapy

We treat patients who have decreased strength, endurance and mobility as a result of sprains, strains, sports-related injuries and chronic injuries. The goal of physical therapy is to slowly return the patient to optimal health. A large part of a physical therapist's program is directed at preventing injury and loss of movement.

Some physical therapists consult with individuals and fitness clubs to develop workouts that are safe and effective, especially for people who already know that they have a problem with their joints or backs.

Mental Health Services

Bowdoin Street Health Center provides mental health services for children, adolescents, adults and families. A counselor will listen, respect your problems, maintain your privacy, and help you decide what is best for you and your family.

A counselor can help if you are:

  • Feeling depressed or anxious
  • Having trouble getting along with your family
  • Experiencing problems in your relationship
  • Worried about your child's behavior
  • In a violent relationship

Our team includes a doctor, licensed social worker and family advocate.

Nutrition Services

We offer individualized nutrition counseling and nutrition interventions for our patients and community.

Podiatry (Foot Care)

We provide routine foot care as well as diagnostic foot care services. A podiatrist is on staff to provide these services.

Community Health Programs

We are committed to partnering with residents to improve the health of the entire community. Our community health initiatives focus on issues such as:

  • Community organizing and development
  • Violence prevention
  • Health equity
  • Food access

Staffed by community health workers, we work with community residents and community-based agencies to identify common issues and develop programs to address those needs. We have a long history working with residents, businesses, community-based organizations, faith-based organizations, social service agencies and public agencies in these efforts.
