How to Apply to the Dietetic Internship

Application Process for Our Dietetic Internship

Applicants should apply to the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC) Dietetic Internship via the Dietetic Internship Centralized Application Service (DICAS) portal.

Application Procedure

Applicants can apply to the BIDMC dietetic internship in two ways:

Applying for the Dietetic Internship Only

This option is for students who have either already earned a master’s degree and Verification Statement from an ACEND-accredited Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD), or are in the process of doing so, and will have completed them prior to the start of the internship.

The BIDMC Dietetic Internship is 10 months from beginning to end.

You will apply directly to the BIDMC Dietetic Internship via the DICAS portal. Please note there is a fee to use DICAS.

In addition to the standard DICAS information (personal, academic, and employment and other relevant experiences), you’ll also include a personal statement addressing the following:

  • Tell us about you, and what led you to choose a career in nutrition and dietetics.
  • Describe your short- and long-term career goals, aside from passing the RD exam.
  • Explain why you're applying to the BIDMC internship specifically.
  • Describe in what ways the BIDMC internship will help you meet your goals.
  • Discuss your strengths, as well as an area where you'd like to see personal growth.

BIDMC internship staff will review applications, conduct interviews with select applicants, and communicate with applicants about decisions.

Applying for a Boston University MS Degree & BIDMC's Dietetic Internship

This option is for students who are seeking both a master’s degree (MS) and the dietetic internship (DI), all via one application. Through our partnership with Boston University (BU), you would complete BU’s two-semester Master’s in Nutrition with a clinical concentration the first year, then begin the BIDMC DI the second year.

This combined MS Dietetic Internship program is 22 months in length.

You will apply directly to Boston University’s MS+ BIDMC DI via the DICAS portal, choosing the BIDMC DI partnership program as your preferred option.

Both BU admissions personnel and BIDMC internship staff will review applications and conduct interviews with select applicants. After conferring with BIDMC, the BU admissions staff will communicate decisions with applicants.
