The Division of Ophthalmology at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC) provides comprehensive medical and surgical treatment of eye diseases, including subspecialty services in glaucoma, cataract surgery, cornea and external diseases, oculoplastics, ocular oncology, retina and neuro-ophthalmology.

Our clinical work and research activities are supported by the Department of Surgery. We also conduct research to improve the care of patients with eye disorders and offer education programs in ophthalmology.

Care & Services

The Division of Ophthalmology provides comprehensive medical and surgical treatment of eye diseases, including subspecialty services in glaucoma, cataract surgery, cornea and external diseases, oculoplastics, ocular oncology, retina and neuro-ophthalmology.

Advanced Screening & Diagnostic Testing

The Division of Ophthalmology offers a variety of advanced screening and ancillary testing, including fluorescein angiography, fundus photography, ophthalmic ultrasound, optical coherence tomography, corneal topography and visual fields.

Neuro-Ophthalmology Clinic

The Neuro-Ophthalmology Clinic provides care for patients with visual difficulties or eye movement abnormalities due to a process involving the brain. The clinic employs a wide range of ophthalmologic and neurologic evaluative techniques. 

Education & Training

The Department of Surgery’s education programs train the country’s future surgical leaders. Our academic programs offer technical and cognitive skill-building in a variety of settings of supervision, support and mentorship.
