Ophthalmology Research

About Our Eye Disease Research

The Division of Ophthalmology at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC) provides personalized, comprehensive medical and surgical care for eye diseases, including subspecialty services in glaucoma, cataract surgery, cornea and external diseases, and neuro-ophthalmology. Beyond clinical care, our ophthalmologists are involved in extensive research and evaluation of surgical and non-surgical treatment for eye disease.

Our investigators have conducted research on the efficacy and outcomes of novel surgical techniques, the intraocular cytokine levels of eyes with various ocular conditions, novel risk factors for age-related macular degeneration (AMD) and oculomotor nerve schwannomas (ONS). This innovative research partnered with ophthalmic technology is enhancing ophthalmic care for patients and training the next generation of ophthalmologists.
