The benefits summary below is a general outline of offerings available to BIDMC employees. Though every effort is made to keep this summary accurate and current, benefits may be changed, amended and/or discontinued at any time.

  • Dental insurance
  • Two vision insurance plans to choose from
  • Short- and long-term disability insurance
  • Life insurance (employee, spouse and dependent)
  • Medical and dependent care flexible spending accounts (FSAs)
  • Accident, critical care and hospital indemnity insurance
  • Pre-paid legal insurance
Retirement Plans

Your future is important to us. BIDMC offers a traditional 401(k) retirement plan. We also offer a voluntary 403(b) retirement savings plan.

401(k) Plan

Our 401(k) plan offers you the advantage of saving pre-tax money. These contributions are invested in a Fidelity Investments account. After one year of eligible service, you will receive a weekly matching contribution equal to 60 percent of the first four percent of pay you defer into your 401(k) account.

Also after one year of eligible service, you will receive an annual CORE contribution equal to a percentage of your eligible pay. This contribution (ranging from 2–5% of your pay) is based on your years of service. You do not need to contribute to the BIDMC 401(k) plan to receive a CORE contribution.

Both the 401(k) employer match and CORE contribution are vested immediately.

403(b) Plan

Our voluntary 403(b) plan offers you the advantage of saving additional money while deferring taxes. These contributions are invested in a Fidelity Investments account.

Paid Time Off

BIDMC’s paid time off program is called Earned Time (ET). Through ET, you accrue paid time off each week based on your scheduled hours and length of employment. ET can be used for personal illness, vacation time and holidays.

You’re eligible for earned time if you’re regularly scheduled to work 20 or more hours per week. Based on the current ET accrual rates, full-time employees scheduled to work 40 hours a week accrue 28 days annually. You will earn additional days as your years of service increase. ET is pro-rated for part-time employees working less than 40 hours per week.

Employee Assistance Program (EAP)

Your personal and professional lives are demanding. BIDMC’s Employee Assistance Program (EAP) helps you meet the challenges of these demands. We offer confidential counseling as well as free legal and financial consultations.

Tuition Reimbursement

We offer tuition reimbursement for work-related education. After six months of employment, BIDMC will pay tuition costs of up to $1,500 each calendar year for approved work-related courses.

After five years of service, our tuition reimbursement amount increases to up to $2,250 per year. Direct patient care employees are eligible for additional funds.

The amount of tuition reimbursement offered is pro-rated for eligible part-time employees.

Workforce Development

We offer a number of opportunities for employees looking to enhance their job skills. Our team conducts career and academic counseling and college placement testing. We also offer on-site pre-college prep courses in math, reading and English, as well as college-level science courses. Non-native English speakers can also take advantage of free on-site English classes.
