Clinical Trials at BIDMC
Review our current research studies.
The Division of Clinical Informatics (DCI) at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC), founded in 1970 by Drs. Howard Bleich and Warner Slack, was among the world’s first academic divisions dedicated to using computers to improve patient care, education and research.
Our mission is to enhance doctor–patient relationships, advance medical education, improve healthcare quality and reduce costs. DCI’s pioneering legacy is reflected in its many honors, including the 2025 IMIA François Grémy Award to Dr. Charles Safran, the election of Dr. Yuri Quintana to the International Academy of Health Sciences Informatics, and the earlier Morris F. Collen and National Academy of Medicine recognitions of Drs. McCray, Bleich and Slack.
Current research spans clinical systems design, patient engagement platforms, decision support, mobile health and global e-health. Educational programs include the ACGME-accredited Clinical Informatics Fellowship, the Pharmacy Informatics Internship and Harvard’s ME530M.1 elective, all cultivating future leaders in health IT.
DCI also leads the DCI Network, a global consortium driving collaborative innovation in real-world data, AI and multi-institutional research. The Division hosts numerous conferences throughout the year including annual conferences on AI in healthcare and digital patient engagement.
Our culture of collaboration and innovation guides scientific discoveries that are helping to transform medical care.
