Our Pathology Specialty Fellowships


ACGME-approved fellowships are available in the below subspecialties (as of May 1, 2024):

  • Blood Banking/Transfusion Medicine (One one-year position. Program Director: Dr. Kerry O’Brien). Next opening: 2026-2027.
  • Cytopathology (Two one-year positions. Program Director: Dr. Michiya Nishino). Next opening: 2026-2027.
  • Dermatopathology (One one-year position. Program Director: Dr. Steven Tahan). Next opening: 2026-2027.
  • Hematopathology (Two one-year positions. Program Director: Dr. German Pihan). Next opening: 2026-2027.
  • Medical Microbiology (One one-year position. Program Director: Dr. James Kirby). Now accepting applications for 2025-2026.
  • Neuropathology (One two-year position. Program Director: Dr. Hemant Varma). Next opening: 2027-2029.
  • Breast Pathology (Two one-year positions. Program Director: Dr. Liza Quintana). Next opening: 2026-2027.
  • Gastrointestinal Pathology (Two one-year positions. Program Director: Dr. Osman Yilmaz). Next opening: 2026-2027.

General Application Information: 

Applications are currently being accepted for the 2026-2027 academic year. Deadline for submission of applications is August 31, 2024 (except for Hematopathology, which is participating in the NRMP Pathology Fellowship Match).

A complete application will include: 

- CAP Standardized Pathology Fellowship Application
- Cover letter with personal statement
- Curriculum vitae
- Copy of USLME test scores (or equivalent)
- Three letters of recommendation emailed directly by the references ; one must be from current program director 
- Letter of good standing from current program director/most recent program director
- ECFMG certification (for foreign medical graduates)
