About Dr. Hanson
S. J. Hanson, MD, is the Site Director for the BIDMC Botswana Program in Obstetrics and Gynecology in collaboration with the Botswana-Harvard Partnership.
Dr. Hanson is a graduate of the Medical College of Virginia and completed her residency at the Johns Hopkins Hospital. She has worked internationally with Doctors without Borders, the World Health Organization, and Jhpiego.
She has participated in maternal health projects throughout the continent of Africa, emergency health care in Central America, and evidence-based obstetrics and gynecology education in Southeast Asia and the Indian Subcontinent. Dr. Hanson worked with the Indian Health Service in the Southwestern United States and Alaska where she provided generalist care in a rural setting on the Navajo reservation, high risk obstetrics and gynecologic surgical care at The Alaskan Native Medical center, and perinatal quality collaboration, simulation and education, and family planning outreach throughout Alaska.
She is currently based in Botswana.
