Why BIDMC? I chose BIDMC for a multitude of reasons. Most importantly, the residents seemed genuinely happy during the interview process, and every person I met (virtually) seemed open and eager to talk about their experience. As soon as we matched, my incoming co-residents began reaching out and offering to help each other with questions about the area, finding apartments, moving etc. I think that shows the kind of people that BIDMC attracts. BIDMC also has an incredibly strong education with a large diversity of cases, fantastic access to resources, and phenomenal educators who are invested in the residents. And last but not least, BIDMC is in a great location for training and for fueling my interests outside of medicine.

Specific Interests in Anesthesia: I have so much more to explore, but so far I have been most drawn to critical care and chronic pain. I also want to incorporate my interest in geriatrics as I continue my training.

Why BIDMC? BIDMC was hands down the most well-rounded program I had the privilege of interviewing with. Historically it has paved a way in healthcare from both a medical and social aspect. On top of it being a prestigious program, it’s known as “Harvard with a Heart”, which is a testament to its culture. In addition to BIDMC having all of the major fellowships, residents frequently choose to stay here for the additional training. Lastly, the camaraderie between the residents made it apparent to me that they enjoyed each other’s company despite the rigor of residency.

Why BIDMC? Many of the fantastic anesthesia staff at Rhode Island Hospital and The Miriam Hospital in Providence, Rhode Island completed their residencies and fellowships at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. I looked up to these attendings and hoped to emulate their training. My interview day was fantastic, immediately I found a sense of camaraderie and enthusiasm towards anesthesia and medical education amongst the attendings and residents. BIDMC fosters an environment for personal growth while providing the education and tools necessary to become an excellent anesthesiologist.

After moving from Texas at a young age to southern New Hampshire, I would frequently travel down to Boston in high school for soccer and lacrosse games. I also frequented Boston to play Northeastern and Boston University while I played lacrosse at The University of New Hampshire. I have always enjoyed my time spent in the city. I grew up a Boston sports fan: watching Bledsoe hand over the Patriots to Brady, going to Fenway back when Garciaparra, Pedro, and Manny played, the Garden to see the Celtics with KG, Ray Allen, Rondo, and Paul Pierce, and also Chara, Marchand, and Bergeron on the Bruins. I'll always be a Boston fan. Ultimately, I knew I would receive a world-class education at BIDMC in my favorite city.
