Musculoskeletal Trauma and Injuries
Musculoskeletal medicine helps in treating conditions affecting your muscles and bones, which can greatly limit your daily activities. Our physicians and nurse practitioners help treat your condition as well as help you manage pain.
Overview and Symptoms
Our physicians will perform a thorough physical examination and review your medical history. If necessary, your physicians may order one or more of the diagnostic procedures:
- X-ray
- MRI
- Computed tomography scan (also called a CT or CAT scan)
- Lab Tests
- Nerve and Muscle Tests
- Ultrasonography
- Bone Scan
Treatment
Depending upon the severity of your condition, your treatment may include physical therapy, casts or braces, and “trigger point” injections.
Your care team may include a physician, surgeon, rheumatologist, nurse practitioner and physical therapists who work together to put together a plan to help alleviate your discomfort and pain. If you have back pain, your care team will also work closely with experts from our Spine Center—as part of BIDMC’s multidisciplinary care.
