New Parent Class

Our Support Program for New Parents

Becoming a parent is typically a huge adjustment, often marked with uncertainty and isolation as you learn to care for your little one and navigate relationships with your partner, friends and extended family (often in the midst of extreme sleep deprivation). It’s a lot. Our new parent groups provide a place to not only ask questions, but also to connect with other new parents experiencing the same thing, and to know that you are not alone.

Christine Sweeney, LICSW, CLC, and Marge Day, LICSW, CLC, lead New Parent Classes that meet in person in Chestnut Hill and Dedham and virtually over Zoom, to support new parents with a newborn, age zero to one year. Our Chestnut Hill, Brookline and Newton classes meet at Galoop Preschool in Chestnut Hill, MA. The Dedham class will meet at the Dedham Health and Athletic Complex at 200 Providence Highway in Dedham, MA.

Our experts are Licensed Clinical Social Workers and Certified Lactation Counselors, each with over 25 years of experience supporting new parents in adjusting to the amazing and often overwhelming transition to parenthood.

We create warm, welcoming and safe spaces to address the joys and challenges common in the newborn period, offering insight, information and empathy with perspective and humor.

As Certified Lactation Counselors, we can answer many of your breastfeeding and bottle feeding questions, and are committed to empowering parents’ decision-making around all feeding choices. Classes cover topics such as going back to work, coping with newborn sleep patterns, newborn and infant developmental milestones, the baby blues vs. postpartum mood disorders and more.

Beth Israel Lahey Health makes your health and safety our biggest priority. If you have questions about our meetings or infection control policies, please call 617-667-2229.
