Community Health Needs Assessment (CHNA)
Community Health Priorities and Action Plan
Every three years, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC) conducts a Community Health Needs Assessment (CHNA) to identify and prioritize the most significant health needs in the communities we serve. The CHNA helps guide our community benefit programs, partnerships, and investments, and ensures alignment with federal requirements for nonprofit hospitals.
The assessment is informed by data analysis, community input, and collaboration with local organizations and public health partners.

Our health equity priority areas include: equitable access to care, social determinants of health, mental health and substance use, and complex and chronic conditions.
We are committed to delivering equitable health outcomes. As part of that mission, we prioritize the following cohorts for community benefits:
- Youth
- Older adults
- Racially, ethnically and linguistically diverse populations
- Low-resource populations
- LGBTQIA+
- Families affected by violence and/or incarceration
The Community Resource Guide was developed to highlight health and social service resources available to the community. As a disclaimer, the listings within this guide are informational and not meant to be taken as recommendations or endorsements.
BIDMC's Community Health Needs Assessment and the Community Health Implementation Strategy reflect extensive collaboration with community members, service providers, advocates, and public officials across our service area. These efforts guide how we identify priority health needs and invest in programs that address them.
BIDMC is a founding member of the Boston CHNA–CHIP Collaborative and also participates in the North Suffolk Integrated Community Health Needs Assessment.
