“The Lank Cancer Center team ensures patients receive outstanding care in the comfort of their own community,” she says.

Advanced imaging systems and state-of-the-art therapies—overlooking a healing garden—are a few of the services offered in Needham. “Our team is like a family, and we treat all of our patients like they are a part of this family,” Dr. Bodio Downey says.

On Sept. 27, the Red Sox honored Dr. Bodio Downey as a Medical-All Star to recognize her leadership and commitment to her patients.

Q: Are you a baseball fan?

KBD:  Yes, I grew up always rooting for the Red Sox!

Q: Did you ever play baseball or softball?

KBD: My favorite sport was field hockey but I did play softball in high school. One of my favorite memories was our team’s comradery. After the last game of the season, our coach had the bus stop at Lake Massapoag in Sharon—we all celebrated by running into the lake in our uniforms.

Q: Who did you bring with you to Fenway for the Sept. 27 game?

KBD:  My husband, Shamus, and my parents. Our children are a little too young yet for baseball games! I have three children: Conall (4), Rowan (2.5) and Keegan (4 months).
