Tod Woolf, PhD, Named Executive Director of the Technology Ventures Office at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center

BOSTON – Tod Woolf, PhD, has been named Executive Director of the Technology Ventures Office at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC).

In this role, Dr. Woolf will provide leadership and direction for all aspects of BIDMC’s intellectual property management and technology commercialization activities. In addition to supporting faculty in the development of novel technologies, he will also help identify and pursue opportunities for pre-clinical strategic alliances in support of BIDMC’s commitment to research and innovation.  BIDMC, teaching hospital of Harvard Medical School, consistently ranks as a national leader among independent hospitals in National Institutes of Health (NIH) funding.

The mission of BIDMC’s Technology Ventures Office is to promote the public use of BIDMC technologies and innovations by working to create alliances with entrepreneurs, investors and companies to turn BIDMC innovations into products that help change health care.

“We are pleased to welcome Dr. Woolf to BIDMC and to his vital role leading the Technology Ventures Office,” said Gyongyi Szabo, MD, PhD, Chief Academic Officer at BIDMC and Faculty Dean for Academic Programs at Harvard Medical School. “Dr. Woolf’s 25-plus years of leadership experience in biotechnology will be instrumental to fostering collaborations that lead to far-reaching advances in patient care.”

Dr. Woolf brings to BIDMC more than 25 years of leadership experience at biotechnology companies. He most recently served as a Technology Licensing Officer at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, MA. Dr. Woolf earned a Bachelor of Science in Cellular and Molecular Biology from the University of Michigan, and a Doctorate in Biology at Harvard University, working in Professor Doug Melton’s laboratory.
